Abstract
► Early-deafness induced crossmodal reorganization of auditory cortex AAF. ► Most deafened AAF neurons responded to somatosensory cues; visual also effective. ► Somatosensory receptive fields were often bilateral; lacked global somatotopy. ► Visual receptive fields collectively covered visual space; lacked global retinotopy. ► Crossmodal effects vigorous at neuronal level, but disorganized at regional level.
