Abstract
⺠Early-deafness induced crossmodal reorganization of auditory cortex AAF. ⺠Most deafened AAF neurons responded to somatosensory cues; visual also effective. ⺠Somatosensory receptive fields were often bilateral; lacked global somatotopy. ⺠Visual receptive fields collectively covered visual space; lacked global retinotopy. ⺠Crossmodal effects vigorous at neuronal level, but disorganized at regional level.
