Abstract
⺠CBA/J mice are protected from cochlear noise injury by low-dose kanamycin. ⺠Protection requires only a few doses spaced no more than 48 h apart. ⺠Protection is not dependent on age, at least up to 1 yr. ⺠Protection is associated with significant preservation of outer hair cells. ⺠Dosing regimens that work well in CBA/J mice are ineffective in C57BL/6J mice.
