Abstract
► FCM was used to study the viability, growth and metabolic activity of fungal spores. ► Gamma radiation effects on viability and metabolic activity were assessed using PI and DHE dyes. ► We describe a culture-independent and fast method for the assessment of spore viability. ► Fluorescence intensity of PI in unviable spores was 5-7× higher than in viable spores. ► DHE fluorescence was associated with a faster growth and higher metabolic activity.
