Abstract
► Sporogony of P. relictum (pSGS1, pGRW11) in mosquito Culex p. pipiens was investigated. ► Three strains of this parasite developed synchronously and completed sporogony in this vector. ► Ookinetes, oocysts and sporozoites of all strains were indistinguishable morphologically. ► Sporogony of the closely related lineages and different strains of P. relictum is similar. ► Phylogenies based on the cyt b gene can be used for predicting sporogony of avian malaria parasites.
