Toxicity of solvents and surfactants to Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius, 1787) (Acari: Ixodidae) and Dermacentor nitens (Neumann, 1897) (Acari: Ixodidae) larvae

► To provide information on the solvents appropriate for tests with these ticks. ► Ethanol, methanol and acetone (100%) have low toxicity to the larvae of these ticks. ► Tween and dimethylsulfoxide (1%) have low toxicity to the larvae of these ticks. ► Xylol (100%) high causes mortality to the larvae of these ticks. ► There is a correlation between declining xylol concentration and lower mortality.
