Abstract
⺠ABC systems impact heath and illness by mediating multidrug resistance (MDR) via overexpression. ⺠ABC systems that confer MDR are found in subfamilies A, B, C, and G; in nematodes they are in subfamily B. ⺠Following moxidectin treatment there was overexpression of ABC systems in subfamilies A, B, C, and G. ⺠Inhibition of ABC systems potentiated sensitivity of females and microfilariae to moxidectin. ⺠ABC systems in Brugia malayi influence sensitivity to moxidectin and may affect drug resistance.
