Abstract
⺠Orally administered SCFA caused an earlier increase in the number of goblet cells in the intestines of animals infected with Trichinella spiralis and a decreased number of apoptotic cells in the lamina propria of the intestinal mucosa. ⺠A change in the lymphocyte proliferative activity of the spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes under the influence of the SCFA indicates that they may modulate the host immune response to invasion by T. spiralis.
