► We evaluate the use of behavioral endpoints as biomarkers of toxicity in amphibians. ► Endosulfan impairs locomotor behavior before survival. ► Distance moved, speed, activity, and space use are affected at sublethal concentrations. ► Behavior predicts ulterior mortality. ► Video-tracking shows its potential as sentinel of sublethal effects of pesticides.
