Abstract
⺠Elemental concentrations in P. littoralis and C. glomerata from the Archipelago Sea in Finland were measured during decomposition. ⺠PIXE and PIGE were successfully used for chemical analysis of 24 elements. ⺠The chemical affinity of different elements to the algae was established by calculation of conditional distribution coefficients. ⺠The algae have great potential as biosorbents of metal ions.
