► Weak humidity is a necessary but not sufficient condition to impact on meningitis. ► Desert dust is closely linked to the onset and development of the disease. ► The mean dust/meningitis lead-time varies from 0 to 2 weeks. ► High humidity is a sufficient condition to stop the meningitis season.
