Abstract
⺠We measured mercury in sediment cores collected from lakes in Svalbard (Norway). ⺠Sedimentary mercury accumulation has increased twofold to fivefold since 1850. ⺠We estimate a modern net atmospheric mercury flux of 7 ± 3 μg mâ2 yâ1. ⺠Atmospheric mercury depletion events may contribute, on average, half of the net flux.
