Abstract
⺠The membrane selective layer is composed of one layer of large unilamellar vesicles which have AquaporinZ embedded. ⺠The vesicle layer is coated with a layer of “bio-glue” that comprises a layer-by-layer coating of polydopamine (PDA)-histidine (His). ⺠An optimized coating can seal the potential defects formed between the vesicles and the membrane support. ⺠A mechanically robust membrane shows enhanced water permeability as well as salt retention properties.
