Abstract
⺠Mapped areas of change are often biased because of classification errors. ⺠Confidence intervals for change areas need to be provided to quantify this uncertainty. ⺠Impact of area uncertainty on terrestrial carbon flux was found to be substantial. ⺠Land change studies often inadequately report accuracy and uncertainty. ⺠Recommendations are given for how to report and use accuracy information.
