Abstract
⺠Observational uncertainties in in situ and AATSR data were estimated. ⺠Correlated in situ observational errors lead to larger uncertainties. ⺠Ships SST measurements are biased warm relative to drifting buoy SSTs. ⺠Increase in drifting buoy numbers artificially lowers global average SST trend.
