► Base of hydrate stability is affected by overpressure, water depth and temperature. ► The overpressure should be considered in the environmental hazard. ► The effects of overpressure are more significant in shallow water. ► Polar regions are most sensitive to the overpressure conditions. ► Modeling can explain disagreement between calculated and observed BSR depth.
