Abstract
► We present a Langhian tropical shallow-water carbonate platform of the Vienna Basin. ► The platform reflects the northern edge of the Langhian Peri-Mediterranean reef belt. ► Water turbidity acted as ecological master factor in modulating the ecospace. ► An ecospace-occupation model for Miocene carbonate biofacies is presented. ► Cyclic sedimentary patterns point to low-amplitude sea-level fluctuations.
