Abstract
⺠We examine the extent of metal contamination in the Guadalquivir River estuary. ⺠Metal levels have significantly declined 10 years after the Aznalcóllar mine spill. ⺠Sediment concentrations do not seem to pose serious hazards to aquatic biota. ⺠Metal and arsenic levels in S. plana are high and of concern for human health. ⺠A potential new source of Pb and As entering the estuary should be monitored.
