Abstract
► Vegetable wastes were used as co-substrate in anaerobic digestion of manures. ► Addition of vegetable wastes increased up to 3 times methane yields. ► Hemicelluloses and 50% of cellulose but not lignin were converted to biogas. ► Thermal analysis was useful to evaluate the organic matter contained in the digestates. ► Energy released by digestates may be useful in evaluating the course of anaerobic digestion.
