► Laboratory testing data of an ash from Michigan is presented and compared to the literature. ► Grain size distribution was similar; compaction characteristics different among samples. ► Specific gravities lower than silicic soils. ► Shear strengths higher than typical sandy soils. ►In situ shear wave velocities were higher than sandy soils, indicative of cementation.
