► New results about sewage input into an Antarctic area are presented. ► Higher concentrations of organic markers were observed around Brazilian station. ► Human activities may contribute negligible levels of faecal sterols in sediments. ► The new effluent treatment system appears to reduce the influence of sewage inputs.
