Abstract
⺠We assessed usefulness of sampling strategies in coral spawning monitoring programmes from Western Australia. ⺠Current practices may often miss significant mass spawning events. ⺠Sampling fewer individuals from a large number of species is most effective. ⺠A clear definition of what constitutes 'significant mass spawning' is necessary.
