Abstract
⺠SRP diversity was comparable in copper-polluted and non-polluted reference sediments. ⺠Increase of copper lowers drastically SRP abundance in the contaminated sediment. ⺠Total bacterial abundance is less affected than SRP community by copper. ⺠Possible lateral transfers of copper-resistance genes are suggested.
