Abstract
► An updated model predicting the size of hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico is described. ► The model coefficients are stable and the outputs accurate. ► Tropical storms, however, reduce the potential size of the hypoxic zone by 32%, on average. ► A May N load of 70,000 mton N nitrate + nitrite would restore hypoxic waters to normoxic conditions.
