Abstract
⺠In this study we compare methods to quantify metals in marine sediments. ⺠We find that levels of most trace metals are not correlated to bacterial biomass. ⺠Exceptions are Fe, Mn, Co and As that are correlated to bacterial biomass. ⺠We conclude that in situ methods are more adapted tools for microbial ecologists. ⺠We also conclude that ex situ approaches are still necessary.
