Abstract
⺠Mitigation of coastal eutrophication is needed. ⺠Harvest of farmed mussels has been suggested as a measure. ⺠An effective nutrient reduction measure must consider all biogeochemical processes. ⺠Anoxic conditions below mussel farms increase sediment release of nutrients. ⺠Mussel farming as a measure to remove nutrients is therefore questioned.
