Abstract
⺠Self-cleaning properties of oiled seabirds were studied. ⺠Breeding oiled gulls were clean within weeks. ⺠Breeding continued and offspring fledged. ⺠Oiled gulls were found to often clean themselves. ⺠Chronic oiling is most serious in winter as a result of exposure.
