Abstract
► The impact of methanogenic pre-treatment on aerobic MBR performance was studied. ► Colloidal BPC concentration presented a good correlation with membrane fouling. ► Hydrolysis of aerobic sludge in the methanogenic stage increased fouling potential. ► Plastic support in the aerobic stage had a positive impact on membrane fouling. ► Biomass concentration in membrane filtration stage should be controlled.
