► Invertebrate taxa richness increased in high complex and stable habitats. ► Invertebrate taxa richness was not adversely affected by the organic pollution. ► Invertebrate abundance increased with the organic enrichment of the water. ► Communities from bank roots and leaf litter were the most affected by pollution. ► Communities from riffles were scarcely affected by the water organic pollution.
