► Two later summer typhoons effects on water quality in HK waters are discussed. ► Increasing discharge by the heavy typhoon rainfall quickly re-set stratification. ► Mixing and dilution effects are short-lived in high discharge dominated HK waters. ► Typhoon events increase the resistance to eutrophication in HK coastal ecosystems.
