Abstract

This study investigated the ionic transport and water dissociation phenomena with current densities in a continuous electrodeionization (CEDI). Current–voltage (I–V) relationships exhibit the ionic transport and water dissociation phenomena in a CEDI system. A high ionic removal rate was attained at the transition current from ionic transport to water dissociation indicating minimized water dissociation is sufficient for ionic removal. The pH variation with current densities was observed due to the mixed effects of convection and electromigration. An FT-IR spectrum study on anion exchange textile (AIET) indicated that the pH increase in a CEDI system was due to the structural change of functional groups.
