Abstract
This paper provides a brief overview of ecological research in the Wadden Sea during the last 50Â years and its role in the conservation of the area. Conservation of the Wadden Sea would not have been possible without solid scientific information and a good interlink between science and conservation will also be crucial for the future management. Some suggestions for future research topics are made.
