Abstract
⺠Basin freshwater increases in phase with wind-driven deepening of halocline layers. ⺠Basin cyclonic wind enhances Ekman downwelling north of shelf-basin boundary. ⺠Basin cyclonic wind enhances northeastward transport of fresh Pacific summer water. ⺠Both Pacific summer water and Ekman forcing contribute to offshore stratification. ⺠Penetration of Pacific winter water prevents local upwelling north of Barrow Canyon.
