Abstract
The aim of this study is the comparison of the performances of two membranes: a modified microfiltration membrane (carbosep M14) with an initial virgin porosity of 0.14 μm and an ultrafiltration membrane (carbosep M5) with 10 kDa molecular weight cut-off. Both membranes are used in a continuous membrane bioreactor, where an enzymatic hydrolysis of haemoglobin was carried out.The virgin porosity of the microfiltration membrane is firstly modified before using, by adsorption of a native protein, the haemoglobin, and by the formation of a dynamic membrane. The obtained results for both membranes presented almost identical optimum parameters.
