Abstract
When contaminants are only a minor part of the feed stream, it can become favorable to bind the contaminants rather than the product. This so-called flow-through mode is especially useful for feed streams where product yield is not essential, e.g. because large amounts of feed are available as process waste streams containing relevant byproducts. In this work Continuous Magnetic Extraction (CME) was used in flow-through mode to purify the Bowman-Birk protease inhibitor (BBI) from a soy whey feed stream.
