Abstract
⺠The developed method offers the opportunity to study, to calculate and to predict the cleaning performance of a known woven filter geometry loaded with spherical particles in a hydrodynamic cleaning procedure. ⺠A momentum balance on a single particle links the simulated distribution of wall shear on the surface of a given filter and the determined adhesion force to the overall cleaning result. ⺠Cleaning experiments with insoluble latex particles that are manually counted at different stages of the cleaning procedure prove the proposed model. ⺠The investigations display examples on future opportunities in the geometric design of filters with special cleaning properties.
