Abstract
⺠We construct a filter medium of alternating wetting and non-wetting layers. ⺠The effective wettability is determined using a modified Washburn's approach. ⺠The effective wettability can be controlled by the design of the composite layers. ⺠The best liquid-liquid separation occurred with an intermediate L/H value.
