Alpine subduction imprint in Apennine volcaniclastic rocks. Geochemical-petrographic constraints and geodynamic implications from Early Oligocene Aveto-Petrignacola Formation (N Italy)

► We identify the presence of abundant subduction-related igneous activity in N Apennines. ► This activity is related to the extinct Alpine subduction system rather than to the coeval Appennine subduction system. ► The detached Alpine oceanic slab is able to metasomatize the Adriatic mantle also 10-15 Myr after the end of the subduction. ► These results indicate the care needed when handling geochemical data without geological constraints.
