Abstract
⺠We identify the presence of abundant subduction-related igneous activity in N Apennines. ⺠This activity is related to the extinct Alpine subduction system rather than to the coeval Appennine subduction system. ⺠The detached Alpine oceanic slab is able to metasomatize the Adriatic mantle also 10-15 Myr after the end of the subduction. ⺠These results indicate the care needed when handling geochemical data without geological constraints.
