Abstract
⺠Monazite dating and geothermobarometry were carried out on aluminous gneisses from New Zealand. ⺠The results indicate that these rocks record mid-Palaeozoic crustal melting and metamorphism. ⺠Melting was synchronous with emplacement of > 3400 km2 of S-type granite. ⺠Mid-Palaeozoic magmatism and decompression extended 1000 s of km, from New Zealand to Antarctica.
