Multistage growth of garnet in ultrahigh-pressure eclogite during continental collision in the Dabie orogen: Constrained by trace elements and U-Pb ages

► Garnet from UHP eclogite show different patterns of REE distribution despite no zoning of major elements. ► Two-stage growth of metamorphic garnet is recognized by their trace elements and mineral inclusions. ► Metamorphic and metamorphosed zircons are distinguished by their CL images, U-Pb ages and REE patterns. ► Zircon U-Pb dating on thin sections constrains the time of garnet growth with respect to the UHP metamorphic event. ► The growth of metamorphic garnet is temporally linked to the growth of metamorphic zircon during continental collision.
