Abstract
► Authigenic monazite-(Ce) to monazite-(Nd) was found in Carboniferous graywackes. ► It forms during very low-grade metamorphism associated with a deep burial. ► Monazite formation occurred at temperature ~ 250 °C. ► Monazite forms only in Ca-poor graywackes. ► The major source of REE's are detrital minerals mainly monazite.
