Abstract
► Peru underwent a series of large-scale related tectonic changes during the Miocene. ► Adakitic ignimbrites are derived from deep mafic lower crust, not subducted slab. ► Large-volume melts were erupted from a crustal scale fault rather than a caldera. ► Adakitic ignimbrites were the final magmatic products in Northern Peru. ► Sodic plagioclase may be stable at > 2 GPa under certain conditions.
