Abstract
												⸠We characterize the clay fabrics of three SAFOD samples. ⸠Randomly oriented matrix sheet silicates dominate the fault rocks. ⸠Well-oriented clay stacks occur only locally in small (<1 μm) domains. ⸠Locally aligned clay particles may act as barriers to fluid flow.
