Abstract
Most studies presented to date in the use of the marine controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) method to detect hydrocarbons analyze the homogeneous reservoir models of isotropic or anisotropic resistivity. In the present paper, we use 3D vector finite element modeling to calculate the electromagnetic response from various inhomogeneous reservoir models of a complex structure. Also, we study the electromagnetic field propagation inside the homogeneous and inhomogeneous 3D reservoirs, as well as the problem of equivalence of inhomogeneous and homogeneous reservoirs.
