Abstract

•Camellia-like WO3·0.33H2O architectures were fabricated via mild process.•A possible growth mechanism for camellia-like WO3·0.33H2O is proposed.•The products exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light.

Camellia-like WO3·0.33H2O composed of nanosheets were successfully synthesized by the EDTA-assisted hydrothermal method. We find that the WO3·0.33H2O of hierarchical architectures is assembled by a number of regular-shaped nanosheets, which are cross-linked in the interior of the micro-camellia. A possible formation mechanism is proposed, based on the nucleation and self-assembly process. Moreover, the products exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity and take possession of good stability and reusability under visible light.
