Abstract

•A phosphorus/sulfur dual doped porous carbon with hierarchic porous structure was reported.•The specific surface areas and total pore volume reached 2276 m2 g−1 and 3.95 cm3 g−1, respectively.•Excellent rate capability, good cycle performance and competitive electric storage/release capacity were observed.•No apparent decrease of the specific capacitance was observed as the current density increased from 0.5 to 10 A g−1.

This work presented a novel phosphorus and sulfur dual doped porous carbon materials (PSDPC) with hierarchic porous structure, large specific surface area and extra-large pore volume fabricated using phytic acid as precursor and SBA-15 as template. The specific surface areas and total pore volume of the reported materials reached 2276 m2 g−1 and 3.95 cm3 g−1, respectively. The P and S heteroatoms were successfully incorporated into the framework of the carbon matrix mainly by PC bond and thiophene-like sulfur species, doping level was found to be 1.88 and 1.23 at.% for P and S heteroatoms, respectively. The reported material exhibited competitive electric storage/release capacity, excellent rate capability and good cycle performance, which specific capacitance reached 253 F g−1, no apparent decrease of the specific capacitance was observed as the current density increased from 0.5 to 10 A g−1, and the specific capacitance retention reached 100% after 1000 times charge/discharge cycle.
