Abstract

•Bonding fractured specimens of cement mortar and concrete were tested.•MPC is of excellent bonding property to flexural and splitting tensile member.•The microstructure of the interface between cement mortar and MPC was analyzed.

As a new type of cementitious material, magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) has a fast setting, an excellent quick and strong bonding property, so it can be used in the restoration of concrete structure. In order to study the effect of MKPC as a binder in the repair of concrete structure, MKPC is used to repair different types of damaged specimens, including tensile test specimens, splitting tensile specimens, flexural specimens and shear specimens. The mechanical properties of the repaired specimens were compared with that of the no-damaged specimens without repair. The results show that the splitting and bending strength of MKPC-repaired specimens reach the same values as the no-damaged specimens and the failure modes exhibited an excellent bonding property between the MKPC and the old concrete. Microscopic testing methods, SEM and XRD, were employed to analyze the microstructure and bonding mechanism between MKPC and cement mortar.
