Abstract
- A two-step process for the formation of allyl alcohol from glycerol is suggested.
- Iron catalysts were modified by alkali metal deposition.
- Acid-basic properties of the catalysts were altered due to alkali metal addition.
- Increases in basicity favour allyl alcohol route and enhance catalyst activity.
- Reduction of acid sites minimised acrolein formation and sites for coke formation.
