Abstract
- Thin silica sheathed iron nanoparticles were synthesized in a Mg-aminoclay solution.
- An iron-to-aminoclay ratio of 7.5 in synthesis yielded optimal surface coatings.
- Coated iron nanoparticles were smaller and non-aggregating compared to uncoated.
- Coated iron nanoparticles reduced nitrate 350-fold faster than uncoated.
- Coated nanoparticles appeared more suitable for groundwater remediation.
