Abstract
Significant effects of compression on the dynamics of convection in gases can be obtained in centrifuges. Because of the dominant role of the Coriolis force, convection in the form of propagating thermal Rossby waves will be generated at onset. At finite amplitudes transitions to more complex forms of convection interacting with mean zonal flows must be expected which have been studied only numerically until now.
