Abstract
This work performed calculations to predict the properties of polar CeO2(100) surfaces, and found that the local coverage of surface O can affect the surface stability. It was determined that Ce 4f orbitals can accept electrons from surface O ions and hence allow changes in the oxidation states of these surface O.
